'Friends' Annual Get-together 2009
Friends & guests gathered for a cream tea with the Mayor of
Basingstoke & Deane,
Cllr Brian Gurden &
Mayoress Mrs Gurden at
Church Cottage on 18th May.
We were delighted to present the Mayor
with an honorary Friends membership for his year in office,
which he
was pleased to accept.
The Friends of Age Concern in Basingstoke began with just 13 people
in May 2005, following the merger
with Age Concern Hampshire.
The
group has steadily grown and we now have 86 Friends (March 09).
Over
the last four years 99 have joined in total so the next person to
join will be member number 100!
Could you be a Friend of Age Concern in Basingstoke?
Friends receive
an Age Concern badge, the newsletter by post & are entitled to free
tea or coffee
at our Wednesday Café. They are invited to at least
one annual get-together and social event.
Last year our Friends
enjoyed afternoon tea in the Mayor’s Parlour and a visit to the
lovely garden
of the Countess of Portsmouth (who is a Friend).
Friends annual membership fees of £12 (£20 for joint members)
contribute much needed income towards
local services. Many Friends
also organise fundraising events or provide support in other ways.
The support we receive from all Friends is very much appreciated.
